You do realise that there is a Corps of Engineers board just below this one? Engineering is the same thing.

Not necessarily.

The Corps of Engineers are like the US Army Corps of Engineers - the guys who do massive construction projects, etc.

Starfleet Engineering, however, are the shipboard engineers. Very different things, very different IC skillsets.
Characters currently in play:

CAPT John Williams, Commanding Officer, USS Jerusalem
CPT James Parker, Commander Theta Fleet Marine Corps

Ah. So every Starfleet department has 2 divisions? Fleet-wide and ship-board?

I'm just concerned that the more boards we have with similar there might be confusion as to where they would post about certain things.

Actually no on 2 divisions. You can think of Marines, Aerospace/Fighter Wings, and Corps of Engineers as separate groups of their own. They were designed to handle specific task that were deemed to be outside of Starfleet initial scope of exploration and operations. Of course it is easy to see Marines and Fighter Wing as military force, which is wrong viewpoint.

I think if you had a description of what they do and compare it to Starfleet you will see this distinction.

Star Trek genre actually as a series of books dealing with the Corps of Engineers. It will enlightening you of the task they take on directly and indirectly.
